What

  • Oil refineries are typically large, industrial complexes with extensive piping running throughout, carrying streams of fluids between large chemical processing units

North Lincolnshire

Situated close to the south bank of the Humber Estuary in North Lincolnshire is a refinery for crude distillation, gas treatment, naptha hydrotreating and reforming, and middle distillate desulphurisation.

Details

  • A fire and subsequent explosion at the Lindsey oil refinery in north Lincolnshire killed one worker and injured two others
  • The fire broke out at a crude oil distillation unit in North Killingholme followed by a small explosion
  • Around 50 firefighters from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service assisted the refinery‚Äôs emergency response team in containing the fire in a 20m x 20m area
  • The blaze was extinguished more than nine hours later
